Baby Development at 3 Months Old: Charlie’s Monthly Update
It’s early May & Charlie turned 3 months old! I saw this as a bit of a milestone as I clearly remember life getting slightly easier when Sophie turned 3 months… More sleep at night being the main thing! Yet again, he has changed so much since I wrote his 2 month update!
I can most definitely say that I am not concerned about Charlie’s weight. He has been piling on the pounds & is a right chubby baby now! His thighs & cheeks are to die for! He is now in Size 2 nappies & I don’t think it will be long before we move up to Size 3. I finally sorted out his 0-3 month baby clothes as he no longer fits in his newborn outfits! The 0-3 clothes are the perfect fit for him.
Poor Charlie still looks like a tiny monk with his long hair around the base of his head. He is not as bald on top now as the new blonde hair grows through. His eyes are a distinct blue colour & he no longer needs much neck support when holding him. The eczema that was on his face seems to have cleared which is great news, there’s just a small patch left on his eyelid.
Likes & Dislikes
Charlie has started to show a great interest in the TV when Sophie is watching it! I thought his developing eyesight would mean he wouldn’t be interested, but apparently he is! He loves Teletubbies, Mr Tumble & Hey Duggee. He also loves his bouncy chair when there are toys hanging from the overhead bar – I sat watching him as he spent an entire hour learning how to reach out & touch the toys. Dislikes wise, he certainly wasn’t too keen on his recent immunisations (who is?) & the Moses Basket is pretty much a no-go area now!
So the smiles are MUCH better now! They are full on, mouth wide open smiles. He also makes little noises & ‘talks’ to us when he does them. So cute!
Charlie still has 4 oz (occasionally 5), but has spaced them out (slightly!) more by having a bottle every 3 hours. We moved up to the next set of teats which he has now taken to really well after his first feed was full of coughing & spluttering. The wind is much better & he settles pretty much instantly after his feeds. He also accidentally had his first taste of water after I caught Sophie sticking her drinking cup straw in his mouth…
It’s getting a bit better… not loads, but a bit better! He now seems to wake up for feeds every 3 to 3.5 hours at night. The best news? He has a bedtime!! An actual bedtime where he will go to sleep! He now goes down at 7pm, the same time as his sister. WE HAVE OUR EVENINGS BACK! The downside is that, because he sleeps so well at night (generally 7pm – 7.30am with 4 feeds), he clearly feels he doesn’t need to sleep during the day. He has lots of little cat naps, but never for longer than about half an hour. He will sleep in the car, but wakes as soon as it stops.
What We Have Been Up To
The weather has been better this month & so we have been able to go out more. We spent a couple of days exploring National Trust properties, he came out for a meal with myself & my husband to celebrate my birthday, he’s sat out in the garden & has experienced the enjoyment of going shopping! Sadly Sophie doesn’t share this love…
Charlie grows more fascinated with Sophie by the day. He spends ages just watching her play. She constantly comes & talks to him & says, “Hello little man!”. He saves the biggest smiles for her which is lovely.
So that’s it for Charlie’s baby development at 3 months update. Look out for our 4 month update in a few weeks time!
