Baby Development at 4 Months Old: Charlie’s Monthly Update
It’s June & Charlie has turned 4 months old! I must say I haven’t been particularly looking forward to this month as it is also known as the ‘4 month monsters’. And of course the 4 month sleep regression… I’ll let you know how we get on next time! As for this month, Of course, he has changed so much since I wrote his 3 month update!
Well, Charlie is certainly growing & is now most definitely large enough to fit in Size 3 nappies. He is also starting to fit snuggly in his 0-3 month baby clothes – I’m hoping he stays in them a bit longer as I have 3 drawers full of them! I like to make sure he wears each outfit at least once before outgrowing them… He now weighs 15lb & shows no signs of slowing down the milk guzzling.
Finally! Charlie has shed his monk hair 😀 He now has a whole head of very short blonde hair. He does look bald from a distance though… His neck is super strong & he is becoming a master of tummy time, holding his head up for long periods of time.
I’ve added this new heading in as Charlie starts developing new skills as he gets older. I’ve already mentioned that he is now swatting & grabbing at toys, but he also did something else this month! Whilst practicing his head control during tummy time, he managed to roll himself over on to his back! It took us & him completely by surprise, but he’s done it a few times now. Now we are just waiting for him to roll the opposite way.
Likes & Dislikes
Charlie is still learning to reach out & touch toys & seems to really enjoy doing so. He loves sitting in his pushchair & staring up at the sky & tree canopies. He also sat through an entire half an hour of The Muppets movie! And the baths? He still LOVES his baths &, if really upset, this is the one thing that calms him down straight away. Dislikes wise, for some reason he absolutely hates lying on my bed… he cries his eyes out if I so much as dare put him down on there. Seriously, no idea why!
His personality is definitely coming through now. He is generally a really happy little boy & only tends to cry when hungry or tired. I think I have decided he is a little more sensitive than his sister though. Sophie can take any amount of accidental small knocks & bumps, even as a tiny baby, & not be too bothered. Charlie, on the other hand, gets exceedingly upset if someone so much as looks at him the wrong way!
Charlie now uses the number 2 teats with no problem & takes in a good 5 oz of milk each feed. He has spaced his feeds out more by having a bottle every 3-4 hours which is great news for me as it means less bottle washing & sterilising!
We are getting there… At night he feeds at bedtime, 9:30, midnight & 4am. We probably don’t need to give him the 9:30 feed, but it means he goes longer so I’m not up & down as much. Fortunately my husband does the midnight feed so I only have to get up once during the night. Also, Charlie has now learnt how to nap during the daytime which is great. We generally get a long morning nap & 2 short afternoon ones.
What We Have Been Up To
This month has been super busy. Charlie came along to my first blog event with Bambo Nature UK. He loved his baby massage & all the fuss he got! We also went on holiday to Dorset for a week. We went to Peppa Pig World for Sophie’s 3rd birthday & Charlie went on his first ride – Peppa’s Big Balloon Ride. Although he was totally oblivious to what was going on, Sophie loved having him come with her. Whilst away he had his first trip to the seaside & felt the sand on his tiny feet. He also loved watching the monkeys at Monkey World. It was a lovely week & hopefully the first of many family holidays together.
Charlie is totally obsessed with Sophie & will just sit watching her for hours. She now tells me all the time that Charlie is her best friend which is lovely. I’m so excited to see how their relationship keeps developing.
So that’s it for Charlie’s baby development at 4 months update. Look out for our 5 month update in a few weeks time!
