3 Handy Tips for Keeping Kids Entertained In Hotel Rooms
Travelling with kids is a wonderful experience that gives them so many new things to see & do. Whilst most of the time you are out exploring, there are going to be times when you will find yourself stuck in a hotel room. Regardless of hotel choice & amenities offered, keeping children entertained in a hotel room can be tricky. They are excited, they want to explore & see what’s outside the room’s four walls. Having this excess energy isn’t a bad thing, it just means that they are happy to be there! However, sometimes it isn’t possible to go out – bad weather, flight layovers or generally just needing to rest & recharge. This, therefore, brings about the question – how DO you keep them entertained when you are in a hotel room?
Bring Something Electronic With You
Modern day parents are more thankful than ever to have tablets and smartphones. After all, they really do have the ability to keep the kids entertained for long periods of time. If you are travelling then it is always a good idea to bring handheld devices & chargers with you. There are so many fun & educational games, music & books you can download to take & occupy them with. A lot of hotels have free WiFi so if you are looking to download when you are there, this is ideal. Other types of leisure accommodation such as B&Bs or apartments can give the same challenges for entertaining the children, but many offer a similar range of child-friendly facilities often at much less cost e.g. A B&B in Peterborough is a good alternative to a hotel.
Get out the Board Games
It always helps to have at least one board or card game with you. Kids tend to argue & if they are having to share a games console this can lead to many issues! If the kids are full of energy then a board game can provide a calm activity for them. When choosing which one to bring, there are plenty of portable options available & you’ll also want to find one that doesn’t have too many small pieces. There’s nothing worse than losing vital games pieces! Sadly this is bound to happen when you are travelling to different locations.
Books: Always a Great Option
Books are ideal for car journeys, but you have to be careful because they can make some kids feel travel sick. It may be a good idea for you to pack some mints or something refreshing if this happens. Alternatively, books are ideal for when it gets late at night & you want to have the children wind down before bed. If space allows, it helps to take more than one book so they can be shared between children & gives them more variety. For young children, try & pack interactive books that come with sounds or buttons, but also have some that are especially for “quiet time”. You’ll be thankful for this if you are sharing a room with your kids!
Staying in a hotel or B&B with kids doesn’t have to be a struggle. Preparing well beforehand & ensuring you pack boredom busting essentials means time spent in your room can be an enjoyable part of the travel experience!
