Track R Pixel Review
As a busy household, we are forever losing important items! Items that we need before we can actually leave the house…a mobile phone, car keys, purses…! And it always seems to be when we are in a rush & running late… Sophie has not yet started school, but does go to nursery one day a week. I already find getting all her bits together hard work, so am dreading when we have to start the school run! It often takes me a good few minutes to locate her record book & her bag with spare clothes in. This is where I found the new Track R Pixel came to the rescue!
The Track R Pixel is a small gadget that lets you know, via Bluetooth & a mobile app, where your lost (or misplaced) items are! You can use it to locate any of your important items. Getting ready for the school run? Find the kids’ backpacks. Going to work? Find your car keys. All with the touch of a button. The possibilities are endless…
The Track R pixel single device comes in a neat, small cardboard package that easily fits through the letter box (no trooping off to the post office to collect your items!). Full instructions are enclosed and are easy to follow.
The device itself is compact & stylish. It comes in a range of colours, from black to bright pink. There is a small, clear button on the top & blue lights around the edge which light up when the device is activated. These lights help locate items lost in dark places. It also comes with a key loop & an adhesive patch so you can attach it to your items with ease.
There is an open/close cover on the back to access the battery. The battery itself is an easily acquirable CR2016.
The first step is to download the Track R app on your phone. The app can be found on Google Play or the Apple Store. Register your details on the app to start.
Turn on Bluetooth on your phone.
Open up the app & follow the instructions to pair up the devices.
SIMPLE. It took me less than 5 minutes to do this.
If you ever wanted to buy more devices, you can add them easily by choosing the “Add New Device” option.
How Does it Work?
Once the device has been set up properly, you can now choose which items you lose the most frequently! For us, it was our car keys. Attach the Track R to your chosen item (using the key loop or adhesive patch) & then open the app. You should then be able to see your device location on the map. There is also a strength indicator to show you how near you are to your item. It doesn’t tell you the exact distance, it is just an indicator. If you are within range of your item, you can also use the sound icon to ring it! The Track R device then makes a loud, ringing sound.
Now for my favourite part. I am FOREVER losing my mobile phone & ringing it to find it. And 9 times out of 10? It is on silent… Now that I have a Track R paired with it, as long as I know where the Track R is (haha) I can use it to ring my phone! Press the clear button on the device & your phone will emit a digital ringing noise EVEN IF IT IS ON SILENT!!
Crowd Locate Feature
A further feature of the Track R is the crowd locate feature. This a FREE service that allows registered users to find items outside of their Bluetooth’s range. When another Track R app user walks past your lost item, you will receive a confidential location update in your app. The network works automatically so as long as your app is open in the background of your phone, you’re helping others find their stuff! I have to say, for the crowd locate feature to work effectively, you will need a lot of people to use the devices. There are currently 1386 devices near to me. I haven’t actually lost anything outside of my home (yet) so am not sure how effective this feature is myself. I will update if I do manage to lose something!!
I really like that the TrackR pixel gives you peace of mind, knowing you have the means to track your important item it if you misplace it.
I will certainly be using it in the future. Now it is attached to my car keys, I don’t notice it is there until I need to use it! I like the design of the device as it is small & not too noticeable. My one recommendation would be to try & put it on items that don’t get exposed to the outdoors – it does need to be kept out of the rain as I can’t see it being waterproof. I always keep my car keys in my pocket to keep the device safe when I’m out.
NOTE: this is a Bluetooth tracking tag, great for items commonly misplaced in the home, and not a live GPS!
Currently, the TrackR pixel starts at £23.99 & comes in various colours. If you use the promo code SUPERPARENT you can get 15% off your purchases!
