Best Waterproof Baby Bibs: Bibetta Ultrabib Review
Feeding & weaning young children is messy! Especially when you have a very strong-willed & independent toddler who insists on feeding themselves. Although excellent for development & preparing them for school, self-feeding generally results in anything nearby being covered in food. Therefore bibs are essential for keeping a child’s clothes clean for as long as possible.
We have always used plastic, wipe-clean bibs with Sophie, but have found they don’t last particularly long. Food stains & going through the wash does eventually spoil them. A recent discovery, though, is the Bibetta UltraBib – a fantastic neoprene bib perfect for containing food mess!
Bibetta was founded in 2004 when Paul Brown, a product designer, dad & keen surfer, tried many different types of bibs on his baby daughter. However he soon realised that none were ideal. As a surfer, it became clear that his wetsuit material, neoprene, would provide the perfect solution! Neoprene is ideal as it is naturally waterproof, stretchy, has a soft, friendly feel, is almost stain-proof and is tough and durable; the perfect material for bibs!
Since then, Bibetta have been designing & manufacturing a range of smart, innovative and practical products to help make everyday family life fun & relaxing. They use a range of technical fabrics & clever design ideas to create products that give the best comfort, style, waterproofing, easy cleaning and durability.
Bibetta Ultrabib Review
Over the last couple of months we have been testing out the award-winning neoprene UltraBibs on Sophie. After lots of messy meals & drink spills our verdict is that these bibs are fantastic!
The neoprene material is so easy to care for. It can easily be cleaned – either by hand washing in the sink or in the washing machine (recommended 30 degrees). The bib also dries very quickly. Again, this can be either air dried or tumble-dried. For me, the bib air dried so quickly, I don’t think there is much need to tumble dry them.
The neoprene material is also flexible and soft, meaning the bib is really comfortable to wear.
The UltraBib has a springy, pelican-style pocket that you fold out to catch any crumbs or stray bits of food. This makes them ideal for baby-led weaning & meal times in general as it means children can easily retrieve their valuable food! It also saves the constant vacuuming of the floor…
As Sophie is starting to learn to use ‘grown up’ cups, it’s great that the bibs have a naturally waterproof inner layer & an absorbent outer layer. After lots of spills, the bib is still going strong!
Although Bibetta recommends the UltraBib is for children from four months to 2.5 years old, it fits Sophie (nearly 3 years old) comfortably. It is a long bib & gives her front full coverage meaning it will continue to fit her for a good deal longer.
The bib is also designed to be used when travelling – the Ultrabib actually rolls into itself, making it compact & easily portable.
Finally, the bibs come in lots of fun & colourful designs. You can choose from a range of prints (from dinosaurs to butterflies!) or block colors.
Both Sophie & I really love this bib as it meets so many needs for both the parent & child. It has also meant that we only a need a couple of bibs for meal times rather than a pile of plastic ones as the ultra bibs wash & dry so easily. The one issue we did have with the bib is for children with long hair. The velcro fastening, which is great on one hand as it can adjusted, also caused Sophie’s hair to sometimes get caught resulting in a few moans & us being more careful !!! Overall, though, we would definitely recommend this bib for babies embarking on their weaning journey & for older children to wear at meal times.
