Baby Development at 7 Months Old: Charlie’s Monthly Update
Another month is gone already! It’s certainly been an interesting month this one… Since his 6-month update, we’ve had a bit of ‘drama’ & a lot of physical development leaps.
Charlie is officially in the next set of clothes sizes now. The 6-9 month clothes fit him perfectly apart from baby grows where the legs are nearly double the length… I think he’s going to be a short boy! He is certainly growing though which isn’t surprising, considering the amount of food he eats!
The little man still has very short, fluffy hair. There is still no sign of any teeth which is driving me mad – I know how painful it can be for them & how it usually results in little sleep for them & us so I just want to start getting it over with now!
Charlie can now sit up without much help. We have the odd fall, but this is unusual. He is also practising getting up on to his hand & knees, ready for crawling. He is so funny to watch rocking backwards & forwards!
Likes & Dislikes
Charlie is still obsessed with standing up & does so at every opportunity. He also uses people as his own personal jumperoo until their arms can take no more! We have started putting him in a Joie 360 car seat rather than his smaller carry cot seat. He much prefers it & gets a huge smile on his face when I strap him in. In terms of dislikes, he has decided he doesn’t like his Bumbo anymore – similarly to his bouncy chair, it’s anywhere where he hasn’t got the freedom to move.
He’s generally a very happy little boy & loves to have a ‘chat’ with people. His favourite sound is raspberry blowing!
Charlie is doing so incredibly well with his weaning journey. He still has 5 milk bottles in 24 hours but doesn’t normally manage the 6ozs he used to have. Fruity porridge is still his favourite breakfast, but he is getting much more adventurous with his dinners. He now has 3 set meals a day & I generally give him toast with some sort of topping for lunch. In terms of dinner, he has the same as Sophie which makes my life so much easier. Pasta dinners, mashed potatoes, beans & vegetables etc. We are BLW, but he prefers his food to be mashed up into smaller pieces which means he then needs a bit of help getting into his mouth. His hand eye coordination is certainly developing though, but isn’t quite there yet.
Big news! Charlie is now officially in his own room! It wasn’t really something I was ready for, however, it came down to not being a choice. He discovered how to pull himself up in his Next2Me cot in our room & nearly fell out the side! So he has had to go in his big cot. He still wakes for his dream feed & can still be super fussy in the early hours. Charlie still has 2 naps a day which lasts about an hour & a half each.
What We Have Been Up To
This month has been a rather crazy one & full of the aforementioned ‘drama’ due to Charlie being rushed into hospital on the August Bank Holiday Monday. He seemed fine in himself when he woke up, but during playtime in the morning & then once again whilst eating his breakfast he had a fit. He lurched backwards & forwards on my lap & his eyes lost all focus. It was really horrible to watch & resulted in 111 phoning us an ambulance. We spent the next couple of days in hospital being closely monitored & were sent to another hospital for an EEG (brain scan). There was a distinct possibility that he had a rare type of Epilepsy in the form of Infantile Seizures. We were all terrified about what this could mean in the long-term. Fortunately, the scan came back all clear & all observations were positive so we came home. It hasn’t happened again since & doctors believe it was a one-off event. We do have a follow-up appointment with the consultant next month so I will update this when we know more.
Now that Charlie is older, he is much more into playing & trying to grab anything within reaching distance. This means Sophie’s hair is constantly clenched in his fists which, as you can imagine, she isn’t too pleased with! However, they still seem to be very much obsessed with each other & she always tells everyone he is her best friend which makes my heart melt.
So that’s it for Charlie’s baby development at 7 months update. Look out for our 8-month update in a few weeks time!
