Pairfum Natural Reed Diffuser Review
I LOVE this time of year. All the excitement of the build-up to Christmas & busily choosing gifts for loved ones. One thing I can guarantee I will find under the Christmas tree is some sort of fragrant candle. I love all of the winter scents they come in from mulled wine & cinnamon to moss & snowdrop. One thing I haven’t tried before is a reed diffuser. I have seen them in other peoples’ houses, but if I’m honest I wasn’t really sure how they worked.
Last week I was kindly sent a PAIRFUM Natural Reed Diffuser in the Orangerie Blossoms scent. This gave me the chance to see how one worked!
“Perfume is our passion here at PAIRFUM. We strive to offer you visionary fragrances that add a new dimension to your life, every day.” (Huib Maat, co-founder of PAIRFUM)
PAIRFUM London is a boutique perfumery house created by husband & wife Huib Maat & Josephine McCarthy. In the past five years, they have launched an impressive amount of scents which are available in diffusers, room sprays, diffusers & even skincare products.
Packaging & Setup
The diffuser arrived in a beautifully packaged black & gold box which was sturdy enough to keep the bottle nice & secure. The diffuser itself is made from glass & contains 100ml of pure scented essential oils. It also comes with 10 wooden reeds wrapped in a ribbon. I had to read the instructions (fortunately these were included!) & found it was exceptionally easy to set up. Just untie the sticks, remove the diffuser topper & then add as many reeds as necessary. Apparently the more reeds you add, the stronger the scent becomes. It also helps if you regularly turn them. I chose to add all 10 reeds as I like strong sweet smells, especially living with children, one of whom seems to create particularly smelly nappies! By adding all of the reeds you do reduce the lifespan of the product, so if you want it to last longer then just add fewer.
The glass bottle of diffuser itself is a really classy design & would fit in with most interior schemes. The chrome neck & glass perfume bottle is simple yet elegant & sits proudly on display in our home. The black reeds are high quality, made from natural rattan. Perfect for diffusing the aroma.
I decided to set my diffuser up on the cabinet in our living room. I could instantly smell the sweet orange notes & it was delightful. The next day, after we had been out, I was greeted by the same distinct smell as I entered our house. I must say I’ve had plenty of compliments from visitors this week on how nice my house is smelling! As mentioned, I chose the Orangerie Blossoms scent which is described as
“the aroma of a peaceful, sunlight flooded Orangery: heady orange blossom, jasmine, tuberose & ylang-ylang. The top has subtle fruity aspects of peach, apricot and pear. Warmth radiates from sandalwood, musk and honey in the base”.
Not being a perfume connoisseur myself, I couldn’t tell you if I could identify these smells, however as far as I’m concerned it smelt lovely & that’s the main thing! It certainly has an orange scent to it & isn’t overpowering. It also smells really natural – there is no chemical or synthetic feel to it, it is much purer.
One of the unique selling points of this reed diffuser is that the fragrance is composed of natural & organic essential oils that are non-toxic, non-flammable & non-carcinogenic. The natural carrier oil is also non-VOC which means it contains no solvents that attack the lungs or the environment!
Although it has not been 3 months yet, I trust that this diffuser will last at least that long. If I used fewer reeds it could last up to 5 months which is a great amount of time for the price of £25. I love the fact that the product is handmade by artisans in the UK & that it is health & environmentally conscious.
Pairfum also offers a variety of other fragrances ranging from pink grapefruit to cognac & vanilla. They all sound utterly delightful & I’m looking forward to trying out a different scent next time.
