Personalised Name Book: Magic Story Book Review
Gift personalisation is a very popular choice currently & personalised books are no exception. I really love the idea of personalised books because, to the child, it feels like the book was written just for them. It feels a lot more special than other books & can be a lifelong keepsake.
When we received our personalised book – The Magic of My Name – from The Story Tailors, my daughter was absolutely delighted. She couldn’t believe that someone had written a story all about her. She was the star of the story! This particular book is a story based on the letters of your child’s name. Sort of like an acrostic poem, the story explains how each letter in their name came to be.
These letters & traits are then used to tell an adventure story! Throughout the story, Sophie encounters Kings & Princes & travels the world from the North Pole to the desert. All whilst learning the story behind her name.
Creating Your Personalised Book
You can easily create your book online on The Magic of My Name website. I was really impressed with how easy it was to do & also good fun! Start by typing in your child’s name & watch as your own personalised book comes to life.
You can actually personalise the book even further. When ordering, you can choose whether your character is a boy or girl & even what colour skin & hair they have. Of course I made mine as close to Sophie as possible.
A final touch is that you can write a special dedication message just for your child. I adapted the provided message so that it read:
Once finished, the website creates a preview of your customised book so you can see exactly what it will look like.
The Magic of My Name
After ordering, the book easily arrived within the fortnight suggested. Upon opening the package it was clear that this book is high quality. The pages are thick & glossy & seems very durable – something that is very important when you have little hands reading it regularly. The book is an A4 size & has high strength sealing.
The story itself is lovely. It starts with a fairy visiting the child to help them discover the magic behind their name. The story flows well & the illustrations are wonderful. The morals & values depicted are well worth sharing with your little ones. From an educational standpoint, there are lots of ‘big words’ in this book which is excellent for expanding vocabulary. Knowing that these new words somehow relate to the individual child can really help them remember them & hopefully use them in the future.
One thing I will say about this book is that is very word heavy & quite a long read. It definitely isn’t a toddler book at nearly 50 pages long. However, an older child would most certainly love it &, at 3 years old, Sophie enjoys it in short bursts. We will sit & look at the illustrations & do a couple of letters at a time.
Sophie absolutely loves this book & it is a firm bedtime favourite.
Just as a side note – if your child has a shorter name, don’t worry! The protagonist just gets to go on more adventures with less reference to their name. Furthermore, if your child has repeated letters in their name, each letter has a different story.
There seems to be no gender stereotyping – choosing a boy or a girl makes no difference to the characters met / adventures had. The book can be ordered in lots of different languages so is perfect for bilingual families.
Books start at £23.99 &, in my opinion, make the perfect gift for a child. For more information, or to order your own copy, visit The Magic of My Name site.
