Planning a Staycation in 2021
I think it is safe to say that I am not the only one desperately planning a much-needed break this year! And keeping everything crossed that it can go ahead, of course. We are in the middle of a national lockdown so travel is very much off the cards at the moment, however, it doesn’t mean we can’t dream and plan what we are going to do when this awful time is over.
One of my favourite things to do EVER is going on holiday with my family so, as part of our home learning, we have been thinking about what UK cities we would love to visit in the future. The city that came out top of the list was London! Why? Well, hundreds of reasons, but for my 5 year old it was because she knows Daddy goes there for work sometimes & she is obviously fascinated by this ‘far away place that Daddy goes to’!
I, myself, have only been to London a handful of times. I have seen some of the landmarks but never stayed there for any length of time to really enjoy them or soak in any of the culture found in such a huge city.
Things to Do With the Kids
Bearing in mind our trip would involve two young children, we had a look at some of the things they would be interested in doing whilst there. They came up with a list which included:
- The Natural History Museum (they love dinosaurs!)
- Big Ben
- The Science Centre
- Shrek’s Adventure
- ZSL London Zoo
Of course, there were many more but I’m not sure how many things they think we can fit into what would probably be a long weekend! Top of my list of things to do is the Tower of London. It is one of the historic sites in London I haven’t yet managed to visit & I have a real fascination with Tudor history so this is somewhere I would love to explore.
In terms of accommodation, how amazing would it be to stay in London city centre? There are a plethora of wonderful apartments & hotels to choose from & some even include the price of theatre or attraction tickets! Something to definitely consider when choosing where to stay.
I will be totally honest; even if everything opened up and went back to normal, I don’t feel quite ready to travel abroad yet. I think there are so many wonderful destinations on our own doorstep that, for now, I will remain in the UK. Talking to the family, I think some of our next city breaks would include Manchester and Liverpool. Again, the children haven’t been to either of these cities so this would be a new experience for them!
Covid 19: Stay Home – Protect the NHS – Save Lives
We don’t know what the future will look like for travel going forwards, and whilst we are in the middle of a national lockdown it is paramount that we all stay at home. When restrictions do begin to ease, it is vital that we still continue to follow the official guidelines around social distancing and wearing face masks whether that be in an attraction, a shop or basically anywhere that requires you to do so!
Despite these upsetting times & current restrictions, remember nothing can stop us from planning & dreaming!
